About the choir

Delicious Sounds is a choir for singers who are passionate about performing.  It is based in Southampton, organised and directed by local resident Fiona Funnell.  You don’t have to pass an audition, you don’t need to read music and you don’t have to sing solos (though you can if you like).  We sing ‘a cappella‘ – i.e. without piano or other accompaniment.  Fiona will advise you as to which part your voice is most suited.

The choir was launched in October 2014 with a workshop in the Southampton Art Gallery, and quickly grew to about 50 members.  The choir meets weekly on Monday evenings, and the aim is to prepare for public performances at the end of each ‘term’.

Musical Director Fiona says,

“I wanted to start a choir for people who are as passionate about performing as I am.  I try to create a supportive singing environment that allows singers to discover their singing potential and aspire to vocal excellence.  Being in Delicious Sounds Choir provides opportunities to perform in amazing spaces as part of the city’s cultural scene such as Southampton Art Gallery and Turner Sims.   I am delighted how the choir has developed musically in such a short time.  The latest idea is a choir tour to France”.

We rehearse on Monday evenings at St Mark’s Church Hall in Archers Road, Southampton but have no direct link to the church.

We are a very friendly bunch of people. Choir members have started to bring cake to each rehearsal and we often retire to a local hostelry at the end of the evening to chew over the evening’s events and the world!
